SOCIETY FOR THE PROTECTION

OF ANCIENT BUILDINGS

Evaluation & Research Faith in Maintenance Programme

2010-11

Faith in Maintenance helped volunteers to look after their places of worship better. It delivered free training days to enable volunteers to understand how their building works and how to solve problems caused by leaky gutters and blocked drains. Faith in Maintenance operated throughout England and Wales for Anglican, Methodist, URC, Roman Catholic and Jewish groups and trained an estimated 5,000 volunteers over five years.

The first piece of research looked at the impact of the project on volunteers and their places of worship and the second piece of research assessed the sustainability of the project, providing an appraisal of different models of delivery, volunteer training interests, strategic partnerships and funding and commercial opportunities.  The research supported a successful bid to HLF for the second phase of the project.

These contracts were delivered in partnership with Michèle Taylor.
